‘Telephone’

Opening Reception: Friday, March 7 from 5 – 9 pm
Closing Reception: To Be Announced, in May

Show runs from March 7 – May 31

Starting with First Friday, March 7th, artists will be contacted to participate in a group artist version of the game ‘Telephone’. One artist will be approached to bring in work to The Soda Plant hallways and they will in turn invite another artist, and so on. The result will be a visual conversation about who is making work in Vermont, who they look to, and how their work interacts. The exhibit will close with a networking event for the artists to see the exhibit in full and meet the participants, who were only a phone call away.

The S.P.A.C.E. Gallery first opened its doors with the ‘August Art Auction’ exhibition in 2009. Now at the start of year five, the tradition continues with the annual fundraiser to benefit gallery exhibitions and improvements throughout the year. Participating artists also compete for titles such as ‘people’s choice,’ which come with the prize of a solo show the following August. Last year’s winner was Beth Robinson, showing her collaborative work ‘Blood Ties’ with Sarah Vogelsang this month in The Backspace.

Blood Ties

A collaboration between photographer, Sarah Vogelsang-Card, and Beth Robinson’s Strange Dolls

Gallery Hours: Wednesday – Friday 11 – 5pm and Saturday – Sunday 12 – 5pm

Showing at The Backspace Gallery

‘Blood Ties’ is a collaboration between two artists that prominently feature bloody bits in their work. The stories of Beth Robinson’s Strange Dolls come alive in S.Vogelsang’s photography while exploring their interactions with the living through the ties of blood. The show covers a full year of exploring and capturing Strange Dolls in environments that carry on the suspicion that dolls are inhabited by some spirit, whether malevolent or not, is up to you to decide.
